Growing exports of Italian DOP cheeses

Positive data for the market of Parmesan and Grana Padano DOP, especially with regard to exports, which in 2012 recorded increases ranging between 7 and 7.7%. And Daniele Rama, at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Piacenza, believes that there are good prospects for the future, also in view of the cessation of milk quotas, expiring on 31 March 2015.

The export is growing year by year, but the crisis of domestic consumption slows the best performance that could be made on the entire sector. In fact, even today whereas a quarter of the total production of Parmigiano Reggiano and Grana Padano DOP is exported, the domestic market is practically at a standstill at the level of consumption due to the crisis, creating an unbalanced situation.

The goal of the Consortium of the two cheeses, however, is to constantly increase the share of exports. Both have earned significant increases in 2012, and even the Consortium of Parmigiano aim is to reach 2020 with a share of 1.5 million forms exported.

The Italian food is therefore a must that you must find abroad the space it deserves. And the dairy sector is one of its most important voices.

Although this will be discussed in one of the many events on the calendar to the next edition of the International Dairy Cattle Show that CremonaFiere will host 24 to 27 October 2013.
