The total number of industrial breweries operating on our planet is at least 4,000 units, of which about approx. 2,000 in Europe (more than 1,300 in Germany). In addition there are several thousand microbreweries (including 2,000 in the U.S.). However, the competitive international framework is characterised by an intense process of concentration that has increased in the past decade.
Currently the top 10 brewers worths approx. two-thirds of total world production, but the first four (Ab-Inbev, SABMiller, Carlsberg and Heieneken) alone counts more than 45% of the total.
The current rate of concentration is lower than in the soft drinks sector, but it is much higher than in the wine and spirits field.beverfood.com
